Data Sources
Aerial duels won and lost from match statistics. Uses the same data source as the Aerial Dominance signal but analyses it from the defensive (losing) perspective. Matches where aerials won equals zero are filtered out as incomplete data.
Key Formula
Mainly measures what proportion of aerial duels a team loses, with a secondary measure of how many headers they lose per match. Losing fewer contested headers is better, so teams that rarely lose in the air score highly while those that frequently lose score poorly.
Normalization
Teams are compared against the full range from the best aerial defenders (rarely losing headers) to the weakest (losing most contests). The combined score reflects both the rate and frequency of aerial losses, centered so that an average team sits at neutral.
Confidence Impact
Requires at least 5 matches with aerial data for both teams — below this, the signal is excluded entirely. Uncertainty: 0.85 below 5 matches, 0.65 at 5-7, 0.50 at 8-9, 0.40 at 10-14, 0.30 at 15+ matches. Incomplete data adds +0.15; stale data (>30 days) adds +0.10.
