Manager appointment date, matches managed (W-D-L from the xGoal match database), first 5/10 match PPG, previous manager tenure and PPG, appointment type classification.
Key Formula
Combines three factors: whether the team is in the well-documented "new manager bounce" phase (the biggest factor), how long and stably the current manager has been in charge, and whether results have improved compared to the previous manager. New managers get an initial boost that fades over their first ten matches. Interim or caretaker appointments are treated with extra caution.
Normalization
Results are compared against the league average to determine whether the bounce or improvement is meaningful. When the difference between the two teams’ managerial situations is very small, the signal is treated as neutral.
Confidence Impact
Fewer than 3 matches under a new manager results in high uncertainty (0.50). Interim or caretaker appointments add +0.10 uncertainty. Missing appointment date adds +0.15 uncertainty. Established managers (15+ matches) have base uncertainty of 0.20.
