Key Formula

Measures how many defensive actions (tackles, interceptions, fouls) a team makes relative to how many passes their opponent completes. More actions per opponent pass means more intense pressing. A discipline penalty is applied: teams that accumulate too many cards from overly aggressive pressing see their score reduced, since reckless pressing can backfire.

Normalization

Teams are compared against the typical range across all leagues. When two teams press at a very similar intensity, the system treats them as equal to avoid reporting meaningless small differences.

Confidence Impact

Uncertainty scales with sample size: the penalty is 0.40 / √(matches). Missing pressing data adds +0.30; missing opponent pass data adds +0.25. Single-season analysis adds +0.05. With no data at all, uncertainty reaches 0.95.
